It's My Life

2004-03-23 - Two Stories

Two stories from yesterday, one extreme to the other. I AM a nice girl, but don't piss me off. :)

1. One of my big pet peeves (among MANY) are people who take up two seats on the bus, one with their butt and the other with their bags that they don't want to put on their lap.

Well, today I got on the bus and it was packed. I see one empty seat and an older lady (but not a senior, as she was heading to work) who has her lunch bag and laptop bag on the seat beside her. I ask her if I can sit down not because I really needed to sit, but out of principle. And.She.IGNORES.Me. So, as any passive-agressive person would, I turn my back to her and let my heavy backpack "gently nudge" her in the head over and over. She finally moved over (guess she didn't like that *insert evil laugh*!) and I let someone else sit beside her. Bee-atch.

2. I currently work in downtown Ott*awa, and from where I get off the bus to the door to my building (one block), I daily pass three bums. Three of four corners, not bad. I usually walk right on past. On my way home though, there is sometimes a beggar who I always think about giving something to, but I don't normally have anything. I'm not really a fan of giving money, I'd rather give some food, know they eat and not spend the $ on other vices. Anyways, this one guy has a beautiful german sheppard with him and the dog is always lying on one dirty blanket, and covered with another while the man is sitting there with his behind on the cold bare concrete. The other day I remembered I had a baggie of carrots left over from lunchtime and so I offered them to him. He gave me a big smile and told me he loved carrots and said thank you. I looked back as I walked away to see him eating a carrot and talking to his dog. I had to blink back tears. As I am doing now just thinking about it. I really am sucker for animals. And him being so un-selfish and covering up the animals to keep him warm? Next time I am going to bring some dog biscuits as well.
